Employee management

BreatheHR – online employee management system

Our online software, BreatheHR, is designed to take the hard work out of managing employees. To do so, it centralises all of your employee information on one simple to use system alongside several key HR processes such as performance overviews, payroll and absence management.

By automating time consuming tasks such as holiday approval, you can reduce your paperwork, streamline your operations, and focus on improving your employees’ performance to grow your business.

BreatheHR will also help you manage your data protection obligations in accordance with GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, an important consideration in our digital, privacy-concerned age.

Managing conduct issues

If you have concerns about the workplace behaviour of a member of staff, or you need to manage a grievance, our HR consultants are here to advise you on applying best practice in a commercial but practical way.

We can help you manage the situation to minimise the disruption to your business. We’re able to advise how to handle difficult conversations, hold disciplinary meetings and carry out investigations for you.

We are also able to draw on the expertise of specialist employment lawyers from our sister company, Loch Law, to help protect your business and minimise the time and risks involved with costly litigation.

Improving poor performance

Effectively managing performance is an important part of maintaining a healthy working environment. If a member of your staff is underperforming, it can have a severely detrimental impact on the whole team, the wider workplace, and your organisation’s overall productivity.

To address and correct their poor performance, you first need to understand what might be causing it. We can help. Our expertise allows us to identify the underlying causes of poor performance, whether they are work related or personal. We can then develop the right approach to manage the situation effectively and help improve poor performance, providing support by attending meetings and phone calls wherever needed.

Proactive Absence Management (PAM)™

Our Proactive Absence Management™ service combines expertise from across the Loch Associates Group to give you practical and definitive advice on how to manage both long and short-term absences. Our experienced HR Consultants identify the root causes of absence, and whether an absence is genuine. They can liaise with GPs and other medical specialists, to provide you with clear and practical advice on your obligations and duties as an employer and help reduce your absences. We understand how long term absences can be challenging for businesses, especially when they involve complex medical conditions including mental health issues or terminal illnesses. We can manage the difficult conversations your managers may not know how to handle and provide support in holding return to work meetings, and provide guidance on how to facilitate a return to work.

Occupational Health Services

With support from our qualified team of Occupational Health advisors, Loch Associates Group can help you to improve productivity in your workplace by taking a holistic view of absent management and improving the overall wellbeing of your employees.

Beneath the umbrella of wellbeing, our team of HR Medical Specialists can provide specialist care to employees who might be experiencing physical ailments or mental illness, and make reasonable adjustments for disabled members of staff who might otherwise be unable to fulfil their role. We offer our occupational health service either on an ad-hoc basis or as part of your Flexi Retainer with us. This is all part of PAM™ – our Proactive Absence Management service.

Psychometric testing

We can provide a range of psychometric assessments to help you make better business decisions. Psychometric testing is often used to help during recruitment to provide objective assessments to support the interview process

Our HR consultants can also provide team assessments to help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of a team, the profiles of your staff, and how they work together. We can help you identify areas for growth, and create tailored development plans to build the skills of your team.

Psychometric testing can also be used with senior managers to help understand their individual strengths and weaknesses. This is particularly important when you are succession planning and developing a strong leadership for the future.

Employee relations

Contracts, policies and handbooks

Publishing clear, comprehensive, and easily available documentation is the bedrock of good HR practice. Doing so allows you to set employee expectations, outline the potential consequences if those expectations aren’t met, and highlight the rights of your staff in the event of a dispute or grievance. The documentation, which should be drafted with the assistance of qualified legal experts to prevent any uncertainty, might include:

  • Employment contracts
  • Codes of conduct
  • Employee benefits booklets
  • Confidentiality agreements
  • Dispute resolution procedures
  • Social media usage policies
  •  GDPR compliance documents
  • Pension scheme documents
  • Workplace health and safety guidelines
  • Work from home policies

We can draw up these things and many more besides to help you deal with the common issues that arise when managing staff. They exist, after all, to ensure efficiency, boost productivity and reduce the likelihood of conflict. Our tailored approach ensures that the contracts, policies and handbooks created meet your organisation’s specific needs, whatever they might be.

Training and development

We work with you to pinpoint areas where your organisation would benefit from staff training and development. Employees who improve their skills get better results, feel more valued and engaged in their work and remain loyal.

Good staff retention means you can build on existing skills and knowledge, and avoid the time and expense of recruiting new staff and getting them up to speed. We can provide tailor-made training solutions that are engaging, inspiring and easy to put into action.

We provide training, coaching and development services across a range of topics:

  • Appraisals and performance management
  • Appropriate conduct in the workplace
  • Coaching
  • Communicating with impact
  • Dealing with difficult people at work
  • Equality and diversity
  • First time line managers
