Employee Data and Monitoring

All employers process the personal data of their employees, whether simple details like address, date of birth and bank details or more sensitive data such as religious beliefs and sexual orientation.  This type of data is protected by the Data Protection Act 1998 and employers must ensure that they have permission from their employees to process their personal data.

Most businesses are also required by the Data Protection Act to register themselves on the public Data Protection Register, which involves paying an annual fee and providing certain information to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

We can provide you with Data Processing consent wording, which you can incorporate into your contracts with staff, or use as a standalone consent form.

We can also advise you about the lawful and reasonable monitoring of your employees’ email and internet use, the use of CCTV and any other type of monitoring relevant to your business.
