Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate because of someone’s age, sex, sexual orientation, race, marital status, disability, religion or belief or because they are pregnant or on maternity leave.  Unlawful discrimination can take various guises, and the lines can become blurred in some situations, for example in knowing whether an employee on maternity leave should be awarded a bonus.

The Equality Act 2010 consolidated various anti-discrimination laws and also introduced new rules, including restrictions on pre-employment health questionnaires.

By providing training to your employees and ensuring you have up to date equal opportunities policies in place you can take steps to make sure that your business is a discrimination-free place of work.  We can assist you with all of these needs, and can advise you if you find your business the subject of a claim for unlawful discrimination.  This includes assisting you with responding to statutory questionnaires, and defending Employment Tribunal proceedings.
